Catrina, is a very a pretty girl who was the bartender at an event I have produced every Sunday in downtown Las Vegas for the past 18 months. While she is not a model she is a very outgoing young lady and decided she would like to come in the studio to do a sexy shoot.
She is an avid rock climber (the serious kind) and she had been climbing cliffs on Mt. Charleston for the 3 days leading up to her shoot. Needless to say this sexy little Tomboy showed up in the studio scraped, battered and bruised. While the shoot went great I was left with a lot of cosmetic retouching to do to cover up the battle scars and wounds of her recent climbing.
Despite the bruises what I love about shooting a girl like Catrina is the natural ease with which she approaches a shoot. There is no pretense of being who she is not, no heavy makeup, no false eyelashes, no hair stylist just a little foundation and mascara to accentuate the natural beauty that is woman. The fact that she is not a working model means that there is a pure and honest sensuality available for my lens to capture. Natural body, natural smile and natural ability all shine through to remind the jaded photographer in me who has seen to many re-manufactured women to count that The Architect always had it right and despite all of man’s tinkering with the human body in an attempt to improve it we still fall short of the Natural beauty that a girl is given at birth.
